Important Events In Danny's Professional Career
1974 - April 15, Danny Way was born in Portland OR.
1981 - By age six Danny was skating regularly at the Del Mar Skateboarding Ranch.
1986 - 11 years old Danny wins the first competition he enters. Shortly after he is sponsored by Hosoi and Vision.
1988 - At only 14 Danny becomes a member of the Bones Brigade. He quits the team a few months later to turn pro for the company H-street.
1989 - Danny wins his first Vert contest in Michigan.
1990 - Danny leaves H-street to join Blind.
1991 - Danny was named by Thrasher as Skater of the Year.
1991 - Danny leaves Blind to team up with the former co-founder of H-street to start a new company - Plan B.
1994 - Danny breaks his neck in a freak surf accident.
1995 - Just recovered from the neck injury Danny wins the Tampa Pro Vert Competition.
1997 - The DC super ramp was built. August 16th,
1997 - Danny broke the world record for the highest air on a skateboard, did a 12-foot kick flip, and became the first (and still only skateboarder) to drop out of a helicopter into a ramp. The Bomb Drop was born.
1999 - Danny repeats the Bomb Drop with a dislocated shoulder for MTV's Sports and Music Festival. Despite his injury he stays on to compete and win in the high air contest.
1999 - 2002 - Danny underwent 7 surgeries, 5 on his knee and 2 on his shoulder.
2002 - Danny Way conceives the idea of the first Megaramp. Danny to sets a new Longest Distance Jumped record of 65 feet and a new Height Out Of A Ramp record at 18 feet, 3 inches.
2003 - Danny is awarded best Vert Rider at the Transworld Skateboarding Awards.
2003 - The second version of the Megaramp is built at Point X Camp. Danny breaks two world records in one run. -Longest Distance Jumped at 75 feet and Height Out Of A Ramp (Backside Air) at 23.5 feet. June 19th,
2003 - The DC Video premiered and blew away the skateboarding industry. May 26th,
2003 - 6th annual Transworld Skateboarding Awards. Danny wins Best Vert Skater and Best Video Part for the DC Video.
2003 - Danny adds the Mega Box and a rainbow rail to the Mega Ramp and once again blows away the industry and fans with his new part from the DC Video Deluxe Edition.
2004 - First ever Skateboarding Big Air contest held at X Games X at Staples Center. Los Angeles, CA.
2004 - Danny wins gold and breaks his own distance record. Now set at 79 feet.
2004 - Danny wins Thrasher Magazines 2004 Skater of the Year the only person to win it twice!
2005 (July 9) Danny becomes the first person to jump the Great Wall of China on a skateboard
2005 (August) Barely able to walk, Danny wins his second Big Air Gold Medal at X Games XI
2006 April: Drops 82 feet from the top of the guitar over the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas and takes Bomb Drop record to 24 feet
2006 May: MegaRamp in Mexico City: First ever backflip and backflip rocket air (“The El Camino”) on a skateboard
2006 August: Wins third X Games Big Air Gold medal |
